The Blind Dead

For a number of years a good friend and I have been kicking around ideas for a comic book project based on the Blind Dead film series from the 70's.

His name is David Zuzelo and he has been a virtual mentor for me through the groovy transgressive landscape of obscure and wonderful horror films from the 60's and 70's. Since I've been obsessed with this stuff from a young age Ive always thought of myself as knowledgeable- but believe me, Davids command of the subject is encyclopedic! His enthusiasm and pure love of the genre has been a constant source of inspiration for me. He's got a blog that I read daily.

Our first of what I hope will be a long series of collaborations is a comic book adaptation of his brilliant short story Ascension of the Blind Dead. Read his full text version here here. And Stay tuned for more of the comic series.

Journey to the center of the RUINED EARTH!!

The core of the earth is rotten. Infected centuries ago by the violations of those fiendish bitches: The SLUGS OF EARTH. Unbeknownst to the puny cities of mankind above, the core of the earth smolders with an evil more ancient than human life itself. The sickened planet is dying...its arteries pumping cancerous filth from its polluted heart.

Gothic adventuress Deanna Carter, steeped in the arcane lore of hidden histories and occult sciences, has discovered a passageway into this eldritch world. She alone can uncover the truth of its hideous nature and confront the unspeakable horror of the impending apocalypse.

The fate of mankind hangs in the balance!

More lovecraftian weirdness coming soon from Asylum Press.

Bonedaddies

Waitress at Bonedaddies. After lunch my buddy Paul and I had to make some sketches. It was difficult at first, painting with a broken heart, but I think I got the hang of it.

Ruined Earth

Heres a couple pages from the Ruined Earth comic. Its going to appear in installments in the ultra cool comic Asylum of Horrors published by my friend Frank Forte over at Asylum Press (shipping octoberish). Franks idea is to create the "Heavy Metal" of horror and the artists he has lined up for it are amazing (and a little intimidating!). Click over to the official site and check out the awesome cover by Ben Olsen to see what I mean. Asylum Press

Disney/Junction Point

After four years away its back to the Mouse House for me. It was never something I would have expected, but the projects they have in the works out here are just too exciting to pass up. A couple weeks ago I started as Lead Concept Artist at the Disney owned studio Junction Point right out here in Austin.

Quite a few years ago Disney hired me as a trainee (fresh out of Art Center) to work on the animated feature Pocahontas. I stayed ten years and worked on seven feature films! It was an amazing opportunity- I had the chance to work with some of the best artists in the business- Peter Clarke, Robh Ruppel, Paul Felix, John Puglisi, Tracy Lee, Armand Serrano, Scott Caple, Colin Stimpson and Kevin Nelson...just to name a few. Its an amazing feeling to be returning- though now ill be working on the video game end of things.

I cant say anything about the project yet- hopefully Ill be able to post some stuff soon as things get released. Trust me...Its going to be awesome. In the meantime, heres a couple more things I did recently while at Spacetime working on the Blackstar project.

Treasure Planet

Heres a concept art piece I did for the Disney movie Treasure Planet. This was the last LA production I worked on before I moved out to Florida to work on Brother Bear.
